Charlie Kelly, The City of Galveston’s Emergency Management Coordinator, was recently selected by his peers in the emergency management field to receive the Unsung Hero award for Excellence in Emergency Management. This annual award was presented at the 2014 Texas Emergency Management and Homeland Security Conference held from May 12-15th in San Antonio, Texas.
Kelly began building his career in emergency management for Galveston in 1999, and has served through Hurricane Claudette, several years of high-threat storms and the utter devastation that followed Hurricane Ike’s storm surge, which inundated Galveston Island in 2008 and from which the area is still recovering.
“Charlie has a passion for disaster preparedness and education,” said Interim City Manager Brian Maxwell. “He prioritizes emergency management training to broaden his knowledge in the field and provides invaluable service to the city. He truly is an unsung hero.”
Our congratulations to Charlie Kelly on this well-deserved recognition, and many thanks for his ongoing dedication and support.
